SUNY Geneseo Honors Students and Faculty/Staff for Leadership and Contributions to Campus Community

The State University of New York at Geneseo granted awards to student leaders, faculty and staff April 20 at its Annual Leadership Awards and Recognition Ceremony.

The students were applauded for their contributions to campus community life as leaders of organizations and volunteers.

Tom Matthews, director of Leadership Education, Development and Training for the College, coordinated the ceremony, which was held in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom and included a light lunch catered by Campus Auxiliary Services. The Geneseo Student Association, Center for Community, and Division of Student and Campus Life, hosted the ceremony and sponsored the event.

President Christopher C. Dahl applauded the students, whom he called "impressive."

"Leadership is really what Geneseo’s liberal education is about," Dahl said.
"We celebrate your accomplishments as individuals and members of organizations on this campus," he said, adding the awards are about inclusion and bringing people together.

"We try — all of us — to create a better community here," Dahl said. "Long may we honor you for your accomplishments."

Vice President for Student and Campus Life Robert Bonfiglio said the students and faculty have demonstrated an "exceptional" level of commitment to Geneseo and a "commitment to the common good."

"I think this idea of the common good is truly the essence of what we try to facilitate here at Geneseo," he told the audience. "Geneseo challenges us to engage in the larger questions."
