Summer Happenings

RPO to Perform "Summer Spectacular with Fireworks"

Spend a summer evening under the stars, enjoying great music performed by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, at 8:30 p.m., Friday, July 8, on the College's athletic field. (The rain location is Wadsworth Auditorium.) Jeff Tyzik will conduct the concert, which will be followed by fireworks. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 5-18. At the door, tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 5-18. Children under 5 are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays at the RPO Box Office at 108 East Ave. in Rochester and various locations throughout Geneseo, including the Central Presbyterian Church, Geneseo United Methodist Church, David Mann's Jewelers, Noreen's Hallmark Giftshop, and the John W. Chanler Agency in Livonia and Geneseo. The concert is sponsored by the family of Mrs. Hubert W. Chanler and the Gertrude L. Chanler RPO Fund at the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

July 8-9: Geneseo Rotary Summer Festival

The Summer Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, and Saturday, July 9, in the Village Park at the south end of Main Street. This year's events will include family activities, including a carnival, live entertainment, a Skycoasters concert, arts and crafts shows, and a variety of food concessions sponsored by local churches. The festival is free and open to the public. The Merchants Association will have its annual "Sidewalk Sale Days." In addition, this year a shuttle bus will transport guests to and from the History of Flight Air Show and the Geneseo Rotary Summer Festival. All the events take place in the Village Park unless otherwise indicated. Among the highlights:

8-10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday: Pancake breakfast.

11 a.m. Saturday: Teddy Bear Parade for children down Main Street to the Village Park.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday: Dime carnival.

11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday: Craft tent for children.

4-5 p.m.: Kite flying contest.

8 p.m. Saturday: Free Skycoasters concert.

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Kiwanis Antique Car Show.

The Genesee Valley Hunt also will hold a dressage from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Hideaway Farms, and cross country and stadium jumping at 10 a.m. Sunday at Nation's Farm.

July 8-10: History of Flight Air Show

The History of Flight Air Show, presented by the 1941 Historic Aircraft Group Museum, will be held July 8-10 in Geneseo. This year's show will commemorate the Battle of Britain. The media day is July 8. Warbird, classic, antique and experimental airplanes will fly from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 9 and 10. The air show is held below campus on Big Tree Lane (off Rt. 63). Admission is $10 per person at the gate. Advance tickets are $8 and are available at Wegmans. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Members of the 1941 Historic Aircraft Group Museum admitted free with ID. Coolers are welcome, parking is free and the location is accessible to people with disabilities.
