College’s Top Scholar-Athletes Honored by SUNY Chancellor

(Former) State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King recognized 73 outstanding State University student-athletes this past April. The honorees played a total of 19 different sports, and boasted a collective grade point average of 3.58.

Three Geneseo students were honored: Renne Catalano of Averill Park, N.Y., cross country; Christy Finke of Fairport, N.Y., indoor track; and Matt Kuenzel of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., indoor track.

“These students have consistently demonstrated the dedication, work ethic and leadership that are embodied by all SUNY’s student athletes,” said King. “We are so proud of them because they have set an example not only for their teammates, but for students across the university both in the classroom and on the field.”

The Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels. The recipients were selected by the athletic directors at each level of play.

The awards were presented at an April 25 ceremony at the Wyndham Hotel in Syracuse.
