Mary Luckern ’53, exemplary Geneseo volunteer and benefactor, was honored earlier this year by the Geneseo College Council. At its meeting in February, the council adopted the following resolution, signed by President Christopher C. Dahl and Robert Wayland-Smith, College Council chair:

“Whereas Mary E. Luckern has given faithful and dedicated service as a member and former chair of the SUNY Geneseo College Council for more than twenty years; and

“Whereas she has also been an exemplary volunteer alumni leader and staunch advocate for her alma mater, serving as president of the Geneseo Alumni Association for six years during a period of significant growth for the College’s alumni program, and as an active member of the Alumni Board since 1978; and

“Whereas Mary has played a highly supportive role in efforts to engage alumni in fund-raising, student recruitment, regional events, and other activities to benefit the College over the years and set an example for others as a generous benefactor; and

“Whereas she is a recipient of the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award and the Geneseo Foundation’s Meritorious Service Award and was named to the State University of New York Alumni Honor Roll in 1995; and

“Whereas she has brought distinction to the College and her community through an outstanding career in education, including being recognized as the New York State National Distinguished Elementary Principal in 1988, and through her current public service as the elected Town Supervisor in Geneva;

“Be it resolved that the SUNY Geneseo College Council expresses heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Mary E. Luckern for her lifetime of devoted service, volunteer leadership, and generous support of her alma mater.”
