The College’s 24th Annual President’s Donor Recognition Dinner was a tribute, pure and simple, to Vice President Art Hatton, who has retired following 32 years of service to SUNY Geneseo.

The May 6 event got under way with a reception on the College Union patio. Hundreds were in attendance, and were treated to a lively welcome inside the College Union Ballroom from Curt Smith ’73, who served as master of ceremonies for the evening’s festivities. N.Y. Sen. Dale Volker read a New York State Proclamation in honor of Hatton’s service, and President Christopher C. Dahl offered his remarks on Hatton’s many contributions to the College.

Hatton came to the College in 1973 and was named Executive Director of the Geneseo Foundation by then-President Robert MacVittie in 1978. Through his efforts, SUNY Geneseo has had the advantage of financial support for faculty and student research, endowed professorships, scholarships, lectures, and numerous other programs that enrich the College’s mission as a public liberal arts college.

“The College is deeply grateful to Art for the major role he has played, under four presidents, in making Geneseo one of the leading public liberal arts colleges in the nation,” said Dahl. “His foresight, good stewardship, and deep affection for Geneseo are evident in the legacy he leaves.”

Other tributes were delivered by Michael Luck, vice president for philanthropy and alumni affairs, SUNY Research Foundation; Distinguished Teaching Professor of History William Cook; Betty Mitchell Minemier ’61, past president, Geneseo Alumni Association; and Edward Pettinella ’73, director and past chair, Geneseo Foundation Board of Directors.

Hatton was also presented with the Geneseo Foundation Meritorious Service Award for 2005. The award was given by Dean Johnston, chair, Geneseo Foundation board; John Linfoot, vice chair, Geneseo Foundation board; Patricia Malet Fennell ’65, president, Geneseo Alumni Association; and Mary Luckern ’53, past chair, SUNY Geneseo College Council.
